Transforming cancer care

The Cancer Centre Campaign was launched in 2014 to raise £3.25m to build a new Chemotherapy & Haematology Suite and Wellbeing Centre at Colchester Hospital. These new areas, alongside the £25m Radiotherapy Centre which was opened in 2014, provide a Cancer Centre fit for the 21st century for people in Colchester and Tendring who are facing cancer.

The 2019 Club was launched in 2018 and invited local organisations to contribute £2019 by 2019 towards the Cancer Centre Campaign. Over two years the clubs members raised over £150,000 for the campaign.

The Hospital Trust started construction of the Cancer Centre early in 2019. The first patients were treated on 11 November 2019.

Their gifts have helped to transform the environment in which cancer patients are treated. The 2019 Club will close at the end of 2019 when the final part of the Cancer Centre; the Wellbeing Centre opens to give advice, support and complementary therapies to patients at Colchester Hospital.

Members were invited to

  • behind the scenes and tailored tours
  • discussions with clinicians and key decision makers
  • a chance to meet like-minded people who have also have our hospitals at heart
  • Members are invited to use the 2019 Club logo on their website
