How We Are Funded

The Ipswich Hospital Charity is a registered charity (no. 1048827) which supports the work of The Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust

Your efforts, support and donations make a huge difference for patients; improving the hospital environment, buying state-of-the-art medical equipment, funding research and teaching and helping us to go way beyond the NHS standard.

Charitable Funds consist of:

  • money donated to the Trust in appreciation
  • money left in a legacy for the benefit of the Trust (or a certain part of the Trust)
  • money which has been raised through fundraising events
  • money which has been donated as a result of a fundraising appeal

The income generated, mainly through donations and legacies, helps to enhance the services of the Trust.  The Ipswich Hospital Charity ensures that all funds donated to the NHS are dealt with and accounted for properly, in accordance with Charity Commission and NHS regulations.

Donations are used to enhance those aspects of NHS patient care and staff development which are not funded by the government. The Ipswich Hospital Charity ensures, through its Trustees, that donated funds are not used where the expenditure is more appropriate from mainstream NHS government funding. Charitable funds are used for a range of purposes, including additional medical equipment, medical research and improvements to patient facilities.
