A limited-edition collection of 1000 handcrafted metal butterflies, made locally by Suffolk Ironworks, are available to own as part of the launch of our Butterfly Appeal. Own your own piece of this wonderful collection and remember a loved one or one of the thousands of patients visited by the butterfly volunteers every year.

These symbolic butterflies are a tribute to the incredible care provided by our Butterfly Volunteers. The butterfly, long associated with the journey of end-of-life, mirrors the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly. They are a gentle and beautiful symbol of hope, transition and transitional journey that happens at the end of life.

How your donation helps

For £35, you can purchase a metal butterfly and be part of this appeal, giving you the opportunity to give back to the Butterfly Volunteers in our hospitals and keep the memory of a loved one close by.

About our butterflies 

These beautiful butterflies measure 200mm x 3mm and float delicately on steel roads measuring 1500mm x 6mm. The butterfly and stake weight approximately 730g. 

Please note: These butterflies are designed for decorative purposes and may be affected by exposure to outdoor elements. Over time, some natural weathering and rust may occur. By purchasing a butterfly you are agreeing to our terms & conditions.

Buying our butterflies

Select your colour of preference, choose from burnished metal or purple. Then simply collect your butterfly from one of our butterfly centres. Our centres are located at Ipswich and Colchester Hospitals, and are open for collection on Tuesdays and Thursdays between between 9.30am and 3.30pm. If possible, please ring the Butterfly Centres ahead of collecting to ensure someone is in to greet you.
